About MVDC
Meander Valley Dog Club is a supportive, peer-led training club for dog sports competitors across Northern and North West Tasmania.
Our aim is to create a welcoming environment where handlers can train, learn and develop alongside like-minded people, while positively promoting dog sports within the wider community. We’re passionate about encouraging greater participation in performance sports and the benefits they bring to the quality of life of both dogs and their humans.
We hold weekly training sessions at Hagley, providing opportunities for members to build skills, share knowledge and train together across a range of dog sports.
Sports We Train
Rally
Rally combines obedience skills with a course of numbered stations. Dog and handler teams work their way through the course together, completing the exercise shown at each station with an emphasis on teamwork, enthusiasm and enjoyment.
Trick Dog
Trick Dog is a fun and positive sport where dogs learn and demonstrate a variety of skills and behaviours. Teams progress through different levels, performing increasingly challenging tricks that showcase training, communication and teamwork.
Jumping
Jumping is a fast-paced sport where handlers guide their dogs around a course made up primarily of jumps and tunnels. Courses test speed, accuracy, communication and the handler’s ability to direct their dog successfully around the course.
Agility
Agility challenges dog and handler teams to navigate a course containing a variety of obstacles, which can include jumps, tunnels, weave poles and contact equipment. It combines speed and accuracy with communication and teamwork.
Obedience
Obedience is all about teamwork, communication and control. Dog and handler teams perform a range of exercises designed to demonstrate their training, precision and ability to work together.
Scent Work
Scent Work encourages dogs to use their natural scenting ability to search for and locate specific odours.
